I was driving through the Nederland area visiting some family while on my way to the casinos. I asked around for suggestions for a good place to eat. Everyone kept saying, " The Schooner!" So, I complied and made my way over. Everything was Great! I got their Gumbo for an appetizer (huge portion),garden salad, and I had the snapper which was super fresh tasting. I added a topping of crabmeat which made it that much more enjoyable. While enjoying my dinner I was told by my server the "American Dream" story of the Greek family that owns the restaurant. This is a definite destination restaurant. If you want fresh Seafood, Great Service, Friendly Family Atmosphere you MUST visit The Schooner.

THIS IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST SEAFOOD EVER, AND IM NOT JUST SAYING THIS CAUSE IM FAMILY. THE MEGAS FAMILY KNOWS FOOD. I GUESS ITS IN THE BLOOD.I MEAN YOU HAVE THE SCHOONER, THE OLD J&J STEAK HOUSE, AND MY GRANDFATHER RICHARD L. MEGAS OWNED THE TIP TOP CAFE IN BEAUMONT. SO GO NO AN GET YOU SOME GOOD FOOD.AND TELL COUSIN CONS THAT RICHARD'S GRANDSON RICHARD SAID HI!!!

The service was good. It was a very "down-home" feel. I would not recommend to anyone looking for an upscale atmosphere. The food was ok, I ordered one of their salads and honestly felt I could have made a better salad at home. Over half of the lettuce was whitish yellow and had to be taken out. Many people like to go out for lunch and order salads, I would DEFINITELY recommend to this restaurant to improve upon their salad making abilities. With fresh veggies, presentation means ALOT. Making something LOOK good is as important as it tasting good.

You get quite a bit of good tasting food for the price. I like the atmosphere as well.

My family has gone to the Schooner for years. Be it after a softball game or a nice meal on a saturday night we have had many good times with great food and a very unique decor.
